Academician with 35years of teaching experience in Architecture and Planning projects. Holds a Ph.D. from the University of Kerala, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology. He completed his Master’s Degree with first class and first rank in Urban and Regional Planning in 1982 and his Post Graduate Diploma in Environment Planning in 1983 from the University of Mysore. These were subsequent to his meritorious accomplishment of having been awarded his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from the College of Engineering Trivandrum, University of Kerala in 1978. He has completed international course in "Advanced Leadership Training" in Hawaii, USA in 2007.
Service
Dr. Paul has an extensive experience spanning 35 years in Architectural Design and Planning Projects.
Joined Government Service of Kerala as Lecturer in the Department of Architecture, College of Engineering, Trivandrum in 1980. Retired from Government service as Head of the department of Architecture, College of Engineering Trivandrum in 2009.
After retiring from Government service he has served as Professor in prestigious institutions including Manipal University and a private college affiliated to Anna University etc. He played pivotal role as director of two self-financing colleges of Architecture (Mc Gans Ooty School of Architecture and IES College of Architecture, Thrissur). He is presently serving as the Director after being the founder Principal of Marian College of Architecture and Planning, Kazhakkotam, Trivandrum from 2014 to 2019.
Besides teaching Architecture Dr. Paul. has served as Town Planner in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Sultanate of Oman where he was instrumental in the planning of settlements in the Dhofar region and was keenly involved in the research projects in Environmental Planning. Dr. Paul was a Consultant Architect Planner of the LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Trivandrum.
Teaching interests of Dr.Paul included conduct of several training programmes on topics like New trends in Housing, Ecology of the city, Technology for Architecture, Sustainable Human Settlement Planning etc. for teachers of Architecture and Civil Engineering. His research interests include sustainable planning strategies, Disaster management, Urban safety and Security etc.
Dr. Paul is trained in several key technical areas which includes Industrial Noise Control, Settlement Design, Architecture for Earthquake Resistance of Building, Landscape Architecture, Ecological and Economic Management of Coastal Zones, Environmental Impact Assessment and Research Methodology.
He has several publications to his credit which includes a wide range of subjects like Jewish Architecture of Kerala, Environmental Pollution and the Law in India and Design for Dementia Care to Cultural Influences on Built Form.
Dr. Paul has travelled extensively and his academics milestones and teaching was highly inspired by these travels to various places in India and abroad.
Dr. Paul has presented his thoughts on Sustainable Development, Disaster Management, Millennium Development Goals and the Cities, Urban Safety and Security, Urban Future and Sustainable Architecture at various Planning and Development forums.
Dr. Paul has won accolades and several awards (including the best teaching talent award of the Indian Institute of Architects Kerala Chapter) in the fields of Architecture and Urban Planning.
His membership in professional bodies includes an Associate Member of Indian Institute of Architects, Mumbai and Fellow of the Institute of Town Planners, India. Dr. Paul is also a Member of The Indian Institute of Interior Designers, Mumbai, The Indian Society of Technical Education and The Council of Architecture, India.
